Asia Climate Fund Closes at USD 461 Million, Underscoring Institutional Opportunity in Asia’s Energy Transition
Zurich, 18 August 2026 – responsAbility Investments AG has successfully closed its Asia Climate Fund1 (“Fund”) at USD 461 million, making it responsAbility’s largest closed-end climate investment fund to date. The milestone concludes one of the most successful fundraises in private credit focused on climate-related investment opportunities in South and Southeast Asia, reinforcing responsAbility’s position as a leading partner for institutional investors seeking access to the region. The Fund has attracted leading institutional investors alongside family offices, foundations and development finance institutions, demonstrating growing recognition of Asia's energy transition as a compelling investment opportunity.
The Fund provides private credit to companies active in renewable energy, electric mobility, energy efficiency and other climate-relevant infrastructure and business models. The Fund offers institutional investors access to sectors benefiting from structural growth drivers, rising energy demand, supportive policy frameworks and the need for scalable capital solutions across emerging Asia.
Asia is central to the global climate transition and to long-term energy market growth. As economies expand, urbanise and electrify, demand for renewable power, distributed energy, electric mobility and efficiency solutions is expected to increase substantially. At the same time, much of the region remains undercapitalised relative to the scale of its infrastructure and transition needs, creating a significant opportunity set for experienced private market investors.
Institutional access to a growing Asian climate opportunity
Stephanie Bilo, Chief Client & Investment Solutions Officer at responsAbility, said: “Reaching a final close of USD 461 million is an important milestone for responsAbility and a strong vote of confidence from our investors. It also reflects the increasing relevance of Asia’s climate transition as an institutional investment opportunity. The region combines scale, growth and significant capital needs across renewable energy, mobility and efficiency, while offering the potential for attractive risk-adjusted returns through disciplined private credit strategies.”
Mobilising commercial capital through blended finance
The Fund’s capital structure demonstrates how targeted concessional capital can help unlock larger pools of institutional investment for emerging market climate strategies. The concessional capital effectively mobilised more than 5 times its amount in commercial capital into the Fund — an exceptionally strong mobilisation outcome that underscores the power of well-structured blended finance to crowd-in capital at scale.
By combining public-sector risk capital with private institutional commitments, the Fund is designed to broaden access to sectors where commercial demand is growing but financing gaps remain material. For institutional investors, the model provides exposure to a differentiated private credit opportunity set supported by specialist underwriting, local market knowledge and sector expertise.
This approach is central to responsAbility’s market-building strategy: structuring investable solutions that meet institutional requirements, demonstrate commercial viability and help deepen capital markets for climate-related sectors in emerging Asia.
Private credit exposure to renewable energy, e-mobility and efficiency
Since inception, the Fund has committed approximately USD 204 million across 17 portfolio companies active in areas including renewable energy, electric mobility, energy efficiency and circular economy solutions. These sectors are benefiting from expanding electricity demand, fleet electrification, industrial efficiency requirements and increasing demand for resilient, lower-carbon infrastructure across Asian emerging markets.
The portfolio also provides measurable climate outcomes: by year-end 2025, it had generated approximately 8.63 million tonnes of lifetime CO₂ emission reductions and is expected to contribute around 16 million tonnes over the lifetime of its investments.
The Fund combines responsAbility’s private market investment expertise with a long-standing local presence across emerging markets, enabling the team to source, structure and support transactions in sectors where institutional capital can play a meaningful role in scaling commercially viable solutions.
Building a scalable climate investment platform in Asia
With fundraising completed, the Fund will continue deploying capital into companies positioned to benefit from Asia’s energy transition, infrastructure build-out and demand for more efficient, resilient business models.
The close strengthens responsAbility’s climate investment platform and provides a foundation for further expansion in the sector. By connecting institutional capital with high-growth climate-related opportunities in emerging Asian markets, responsAbility aims to deliver attractive investment outcomes while supporting the transition to a lower-carbon and more resilient economy.
