responsAbility and IDB Invest support Royal America’s first Green Bond issuance in Chile and Colombia
Zurich, Switzerland, 9 May 2025 – responsAbility Investments AG and IDB Invest have partnered to support Royal America in issuing its first regional Green Bond, aimed at accelerating the transition to electromobility in Latin America. The USD 26 million, seven-year bond will finance electric machinery across key logistics and industrial sectors, including food, retail, agriculture, and manufacturing, in Chile and Colombia.
The issuance will be structured in two tranches: Tranche A, up to USD 16 million in Chilean Pesos, will be allocated to Royal America Chile with IDB Invest acting as the anchor investor. Tranche B, up to USD 10 million, will be directed to Royal America Colombia, with responsAbility participating as a co-investor.
This investment will play a critical role in reducing the environmental footprint of logistics operations in the region, especially in the food supply chain. By replacing conventional fossil-fuel-powered machinery with electric alternatives, Royal America’s clients can significantly lower their carbon emissions while increasing operational efficiency.
The framework received a second-party opinion from Moody’s, confirming its alignment with the Green Bond Principles established by the International Capital Market Association (ICMA). This issue not only consolidates Royal America as a key player in sustainability but also sets a precedent for the regional market. As part of its commitment, the company will implement an Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) and strengthen its corporate governance.
