Zurich, 25 September 2025 – responsAbility Investments AG (“responsAbility”), a leading impact asset manager, has financed the Cancura wind project in Chile, marking an important milestone for its Climate Infrastructure strategy in Latin America. Chile is one of the most dynamic energy markets in the region, with renewables supplying around 70 percent of electricity in 20241, yet facing challenges from grid bottlenecks and regional imbalances between electricity generation and consumption.

The project represents a total investment of USD 56 million and will finance the construction and operation of a wind farm with an installed capacity of 36 MW in the Araucanía region, a rural area in southern Chile with significant infrastructure needs. The project is sponsored by Windin Capital Fund, an internationally experienced renewable energy platform. Goldwind is responsible for planning, procurement and construction as the EPC contractor.

International lenders backing Cancura

The financing was arranged through a syndicate of experienced lenders: CIFI (Panama, development financier, mandated lead arranger), Triodos Bank (Netherlands, sustainability bank), BICSA (Costa Rica, regional commercial bank) as well as responsAbility.

responsAbility’s view on climate infrastructure in Latin America

Antonia Schäli, Deputy Head Climate Infrastructure Investments at responsAbility: “Cancura is a landmark transaction for responsAbility. It combines a high-impact renewable energy project with strong structural safeguards. We are proud to partner with an experienced sponsor, a reputable syndicate of lenders and best-in-class contractors to deliver clean energy in Chile.”

46,000 tons of CO₂ emissions avoided each year2

Cancura is expected to generate around 92,000 MWh of electricity annually, equivalent to a capacity factor of roughly 20 percent in the Chilean wind market. This planned output has the potential to provide power to more than 16,000 people and avoid over 46,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year3. With this transaction, responsAbility reaffirms its commitment to financing climate infrastructure across emerging markets, accelerating the global energy transition and delivering measurable impact in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 7  – Affordable and Clean Energy, 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and 13 – Climate Action).

Chile’s energy transition

Chile has set itself one of the most ambitious renewable energy agendas in Latin America, targeting the phase-out coal by 2040 and carbon neutrality by 20504. Wind and solar play a growing role in the energy mix, yet the country faces challenges from grid congestion and regional supply imbalances. Investments like Cancura support this transition by boosting renewable capacity and strengthening grid reliability through a new substation, advancing Chile’s shift toward a stable, low-carbon energy matrix.
