responsAbility Provides USD 20 Million Facility to Swimsol for Solar Projects in the Maldives
Zurich, Switzerland, 10 April 2025 – responsAbility has closed a USD 20 million senior debt facility for Swimsol, an Austria-based fully integrated solar developer specializing in the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and ownership of rooftop and floating solar projects in the Maldives, Seychelles, and, more recently, Indonesia. The facility, provided through one of responsAbility’s climate-focused investment strategies, will finance solar projects in the Maldives.
This senior debt investment in Swimsol marks responsAbility’s third transaction with the group, following transactions in Maldives and Seychelles, both financed through a responsAbility climate-focused investment strategy. The current funding, which was closed at the end of 2024, will support 18 projects, adding a total of 16MW of solar capacity.
Swimsol offers asset financing solutions that enable clients to adopt solar PV systems without significant upfront capital, benefiting from lower electricity costs. In the Maldives, hotel resorts can significantly reduce diesel consumption through Swimsol’s solar installations, cutting not only costs but also carbon emissions. This shift contributes to a lower environmental footprint, as electricity from diesel generators is not only more expensive and volatile but also a major source of CO2 emissions.
The investment builds on Swimsol’s strong track record of successful pipeline execution, solar asset development and implementation across the Maldives and Seychelles, and effective portfolio management. The company has established itself as a market leader in the Maldives’ commercial and industrial (C&I) solar sector, leveraging its growing network to secure repeat customers.
