responsAbility invests in FLP, a Leading Sustainable Agribusiness in South America
Zürich/Bogota, 30 January 2025 – Swiss impact asset manager responsAbility Investments AG (responsAbility) invests in FLP Global S.A.S. (“FLP”), a leading producer and exporter of fresh fruits from South America. This investment, made through responsAbility’s Sustainable Food Latin America Strategy, provides growth capital to FLP to support its commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and expand its presence across international supply chains.
FLP, headquartered in Bogotá, Colombia, specializes in the cultivation and export of fresh fruits. It is fully integrated, from planting and harvesting to international trade, logistics, and processing.
The company cultivates fresh produce, including mangoes, baby bananas, avocados, goldenberries and dragon fruit, across farms in Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador. Modern processing facilities located strategically near key production regions enable efficient operations. FLP collaborates closely with local farmers to promote sustainable agricultural practices and uphold social responsibility standards.
FLP’s commitment to healthy food and community
Santiago Romero, co-founder of FLP, commented: “FLP has a commitment to bringing healthy, fresh fruit to consumers in a sustainable way, working with our partners to create positive impact in our communities. Our partnership with responsAbility furthers this commitment and, together with our customers, helps us elevate our sustainability standards and pursue highly ambitious goals in sustainable agriculture. In times like today, when the world is facing significant climate changes that impact food security, and political shifts that challenge social and environmental sustainability, it is highly gratifying to have the financial and technical support of organizations such as responsAbility, which is committed to a kinder and more sustainable future. This support ensures FLP's growth, allowing it to continue contributing to social and economic development in developing countries such as Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.”
A shared commitment to sustainable impact
Maricarmen Rueda, Managing Director of responsAbility’s Sustainable Food Latin America Strategy, said: "FLP´s commitment to high quality, fresh produce through sustainable agriculture enabled by their collaboration with small and medium-size growers is consistent with the objectives of our fund. FLP is a testament that successful commercial strategies can not only coexist, but also are in fact augmented by impact-focused commitment. Through the support of companies like FLP, responsAbility advances its impact objectives of increasing availability of healthy food and building resilience to climate change.”
responsAbility’s Sustainable Food Latin America Strategy
responsAbility’s Sustainable Food Latin America Strategy supports vertically integrated agribusinesses in Latin America that produce export-oriented agricultural products, primarily fresh fruits and vegetables. The strategy provides long-term capital in the form of customized structured credit solutions to finance the growth and expansion of export-focused enterprises.
Through this strategy, responsAbility has previously invested in Agrovision, a leading, vertically integrated fresh produce exporter with main operations in Peru and Mexico, as well as Campos Borquez, a pioneer in regenerative organic farming in Mexico. The latest investment in FLP aligns with this approach, strengthening the agricultural value chain and reinforcing the strategy’s commitment to sustainable food production.
Latin America – The Globe’s Garden
Latin America is a region with a competitive advantage in natural resources. It boasts immense biodiversity and diverse climate zones, making it ideal for several production windows across both tropical and temperate fruit and vegetable varieties. Combined with an increasingly health-conscious consumer market, the export volume for fruit and vegetables has greatly increased in recent decades. It is expected to continue growing due to rising consumer demand in the future. Through investments in sustainable agriculture, responsAbility's Sustainable Food Latin America Strategy supports environmentally friendly practices that have a long-term positive impact on local communities and ecosystems.
